The Longest Night
When Holidays are Painful
When Holidays are Painful
Holidays are supposed to be joyful occasions, but for many people, they can be just the opposite. At Christmas, when much of the world is celebrating, those who are dealing with painful memories of loss and suffering may feel their grief is too much to bear.
Paula D'Arcy, author of Stars at Night: When Darkness Unfolds as Light, is no stranger to grief. On Franciscan Media’s blog, she shares her experience of making it through her first holiday after a seemingly unbearable tragedy. To read the strategies that allowed her to carry on, click here. |
Light Within Darkness
"A single sentence, a single word, a single awareness may turn life around, and while you may not yet be found, you are no longer lost. It is impossible to express. Your dream of the world is unmasked, creating an opening. The night, however dark, is not endless, because in that smallest opening you glimpsed light moving in the dark. It was the first real thing you have known."

Would you like to understand your faith, weave it into your daily life, and share it with your child?
Your role in the faith formation of your child is central. No one can replace you, not even a parish program. The parish programs are here to reinforce what you do at home. If you are engaged with your faith, chances are that your child will be, too.

Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship
The Catholic bishops of the United States have issued an updated version of Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, their teaching document on the political responsibility of Catholics. This statement represents their guidance for Catholics in the exercise of their rights and duties as participants in our democracy. They urge all pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of good will to use this statement to help form their consciences; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue; and to shape political choices in light of Catholic teaching.
